وتقع ولاية النيل الازرق بمحاذاة دولة جنود السودان.

واضاف البيان "وقد احتسبت القوات المسلحة عددا من الشهداء والجرحى"، من دون توضيح.

ومنذ الخميس الماضي تدور اشتباكات بين القوات الحكومية السودانية ومتمردين تابعين للحركة الشعبية شمال السودان في ولاية النيل الازرق التي شهدت جزءا من الحرب الاهلية بين شمال السودان وجنوبه من 1983 الي 2005 وقاتلت قبائل الفونج سكان النيل الازرق الاصليين الي جانب الجنوب ضد الشمال على الرغم من انتمائهم لشمال السودان.

والجمعة اعلن الرئيس البشير حالة الطوارئ في النيل الازرق وعزل واليها المنتخب مالك عقار والذي هو في نفس الوقت رئيس الحركة الشعبية شمال السودان، وعين مكانه حاكما عسكريا.
